Problem Sexual Behavior (PSB) Treatment Program

The PSB program is designed for adolescents between the ages of 12-18 who are demonstrating sexual behavior concerns. Individual treatment focuses on altering problematic thought patterns, identifying cognitive distortions, planning for relapse prevention, and creating safety plans. It also educates clients on the effects of sexual harm on victims, as well as on healthy relationships, boundaries, consent, and sex education. Family and group sessions are available as needed. This program is funded by grants, and most treatment referrals come from juvenile court services. However, community-based referrals are reviewed individually by two certified Sex Offender Treatment Professionals (SOTP), who also work as outpatient therapists. These counselors provide mental health therapy for addressing problem sexual behaviors, which can be billed through insurance if there is no formal court involvement. Besides treatment, PSB counselors conduct comprehensive psychosexual needs assessments, taking a biopsychosocial approach with a focus on sexual behavior. These assessments are primarily used in court proceedings to help inform treatment interventions and establish risk baselines using validated risk assessment tools (JSOAP-II and JSORRAT-II). They are available to the public as needed, with wait times possibly reaching 2-3 months based on the number of referrals.
